Construction Report: Construction work moves indoors into Children's Hospital

For nearly a year, construction has been ongoing outside the windows of the Batson Children’s Hospital lobby.

Now, work is moving inside. Children’s Cancer Clinic renovations changing the routes patients and families use to navigate inside the hospital.

“We are working to keep inconvenience for our patients and families to a minimum,” said Guy Giesecke, CEO of Children’s of Mississippi, “but we think our pediatric expansion will be well worth the growing pains.”

Patients’ families can still use valet parking outside the Winfred L. Wiser Hospital for Women and Infants when visiting the children’s hospital. New routes will be marked by signs.

Outside, the structural phase of the expansion is continuing, with the east level of the tower rising along with the expansion’s west side.

This month, numerous concrete pours, including one for the pediatric imaging center and clinic level, are planned.

Work on the structure of the tower, which will include 88 neonatal intensive care rooms, 32 pediatric intensive care rooms and 10 additional surgical suites, will continue through fall
2019. Attention will then shift to the interior of the pediatric expansion.
